Biography
Miri Phelps was born nearby in Pekin, Indiana. Exploring Hoosier forests alone or with family breeds a lot of superstition, especially where food is involved. Miri is fascinated with rural masculinity and the soft but dangerous aspects of nature. Her work often references country music, fishing, and fluid spaces. She works with materials ranging from spaghetti to cast bronze.

Miri moved to Louisville shortly after high school to connect with other artists and stayed for several years. She received her BFA from Indiana University Southeast. Forever feeling the push and pull between civilization and serenity, Miri has spent time in cities and towns throughout Kentucky and Indiana but most recently, Chicago. She earned her MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and continues teaching various levels and topics in art.
